WIRTGEN GmbH – Worldwide Leadership with a Multifaceted Product Portfolio
WIRTGEN stands for powerful, innovative solutions for road construction and mineral extraction. With more than 90 machine-types the company offers a comprehensive range of products and technologies for applications like cold milling, cold recycling and stabilization, concrete paving, routing and surface mining.
Cold Milling Machines
Asphalt and concrete pavements can be cost-effectively removed with cold milling machines. The range of applications extends from the complete removal of asphalt and concrete to the layer-by-layer removal and levelling of asphalt and concrete surfaces. With WIRTGEN cold milling machines, it is possible to machine working widths from 35 cm up to 4.40 m and working depths up to 35 cm in a single pass. In addition, a large number of different milling drums, such as ECO cutters or fine milling drums, ensure that machines can be used with a high degree of flexibility.
Small Milling Machines
Small milling machines have a wheeled chassis and a milling drum positioned at the rear. The granulated RAP broken up by the rotating milling drum is transferred to a height-adjustable discharge conveyor that can be slewed to either side for direct loading onto waiting transport vehicles. The compact rear loaders are highly manoeuvrable and feature a right rear wheel that can be swivelled inwards for milling flush to the edges of obstacles. A wide range of milling drums enables the small milling machines to tackle a broad spectrum of applications ranging from partial pavement rehabilitation and milling tie-ins to the rehabilitation of floors in industrial buildings.

Compact Milling Machines
The highly flexible compact milling machines combine the advantages of the small and large milling machine classes. The maneuverable front-loaders are easy to transport and are ideal for use on confined job sites. These powerful machines can mill off entire asphalt pavements cost-effectively. A wide range of different milling drums is available, greatly extending the possible range of applications so that the milling of individual layers and fine milling operations are also among the everyday tasks of these machines.

Cold recyclers are used to prepare asphalt pavement on site. In this process, the existing pavement is granulated with the milling and mixing rotor and prepared by adding precise amounts of bituminous binding agents, cement and water. The result is a homogeneous material that can be used to directly repave the soil. Soil stabilisers use the milling and mixing rotor to mix pre-spread binding agents such as lime or cement into the existing, less stable soil and transform it into a high-quality material directly on site.
Cold Recyclers and Stabilisers
WS Series: Tractor-Towed Stabilisers
The WS series tractor-towed stabilisers can be quickly and easily coupled to a tractor (minimum engine power output >220 kW). The adjustable rotor plate ensures homogeneous mixing quality. Side plates on skids, mechanical belt drives on each side and an effective milling and mixing rotor all contribute to their high performance. Tractor-towed stabilisers are typically used for soil stabilisation or consolidation in the construction of traffic infrastructure.

WR Series: Cold Recyclers and Stabilisers
The WR series cold recyclers and stabilisers have a variable mixing chamber and microprocessor-controlled injection systems for the addition of bitumen emulsion, water or foamed bitumen. Thanks to an efficient hydraulic flow divider, their all-wheel drive provides maximum traction, while the four-fold full-floating axles ensures best possible ground clearance in difficult terrain. The WR series machines are therefore ideal for a variety of application scenarios ranging from cold recycling - structural road rehabilitation - to the stabilization of various construction materials such as, for example, in soil stabilisation or consolidation in the construction of traffic infrastructure.

CR Series: Cold Recyclers
CR series cold recyclers are used for efficient and cost-effective cold recycling of road pavements. Optional microprocessor-controlled injection systems enable precisely controlled addition of water, bitumen emulsion or foamed bitumen. Thanks to the machine concept, these cold recyclers enable selective granulation and homogenisation of the surface layer across the full width of roads or traffic lanes. Using the down-cut method ensures ideal gradation of the material. After granulation and homogeneous mixing with the binding agent, the cold recycler transfers the processed construction material to the material hopper of the downstream asphalt paver with its integrated discharge conveyor. CR series cold recyclers can also be used as high-performance milling machines.

KMA Series: Mobile Cold Mixing Plant
The mobile cold mixing plants of the KMA series are easily transportable and can be quickly set up in close proximity to project sites. The heavy-duty twin-shaft pugmill mixer achieves high mixing performance. Microprocessor-controlled injection systems for the addition of a wide range of binding agents ensure that the materials are mixed precisely to the required recipe. The wide slewing angles of the discharge conveyor enable the processed cold mix to be stockpiled or continuously loaded onto transport vehicles.

Laboratory Equipment
Cold recycling projects are often varied and challenging. The laboratory equipment assists with the preparation of samples for the analysis and determination of the properties of the construction materials produced in cold recycling. WIRTGEN offers a variety of equipment for this purpose: The WLB 10 S for testing the properties of the foamed bitumen produced by the addition of water, the WLM 30 laboratory-scale mixer with a capacity of 30 kg and the WLV 1 laboratory compactor are used for the production of test specimens from bitumen-stabilised material.

Slipform Pavers
Offset pavers are used to produce monolithic concrete profiles such as protective concrete walls, kerb profiles, gutters or narrow paths. Thanks to numerous options, such as for concrete feeding or slipforming, offset slipform pavers are extremely versatile. Inset pavers cost-effectively produce concrete pavements, such as for motorways, arterial roads, runways or railway lines. In addition to single-layer concrete paving, bottom-layer and top-layer concrete can also be paved synchronously in two layers ‘wet on wet’.
Offset Slipform Pavers
With offset slipform pavers, the concrete is transported into the offset mold via a loading conveyor or a conveyor auger. The offset mold can be mounted on the left or right-hand side of the machine. A number of molds in a wide range of different shapes and sizes are available for individual applications. The offset profiles are continually produced monolithically, with or without reinforcements. Machine features include a top-quality machine control system, a practical steering and drive system and stringline-free concrete paving.

Inset Slipform Pavers
With inset slipform pavers, the concrete is placed directly in front of the machine and distributed by a spreading auger or spreading plough. Vibrators compact the concrete homogeneously and the mold forms it in the specified width and thickness as the slipform paver advances. Integrated dowel bar and tie bar inserters position dowel bars and tie bars as specified. The finishing beam levels the area transverse to the pavement and the super smoother creates a perfect surface. When paving dual-layer concrete, the bottom-layer and top-layer concrete are processed simultaneously and paved wet-in-wet.

Texture Curing Machines
Texture curing machines give the concrete pavement the desired surface texture, applying a dispersion which prevents the surface and edges from drying too quickly. The specified surface texture is achieved with a brush. Alternatively, a burlap or synthetic turf can be drawn across the concrete pavement in a longitudinal direction. Automatic crown adjustment and a film unwinder round off the features of the machine.

Placer / Spreader
If reinforcement needs to be laid in advance during the construction of concrete carriageways, the concrete can be fed in laterally using a placer/spreader. The placer/spreader travels in front of the slipform paver over the pre-placed reinforcement, while a truck mixer feeds the belt conveyor with concrete from the side. The concrete is poured evenly over the pre-placed reinforcement, in front of the slipform paver, and distributed across the entire working width. Once the truck mixer is empty, the belt conveyor can be folded away in a very short time to clear the path for the next mixer.
